いつもは英語の先生が、今日は生徒、エリック先生の授業を実体験！
9月13日に北河内地区の英語教員の皆さんをお招きして、国際バカロレア（IB）コースの「授業見学＆模擬授業体験」イベントを開催しました。これは、IB教育の素晴らしさを実際に中学校で英語教育に当たっている先生にご理解をいただき、生徒の進路指導の一助にしていただきたいという思い、更に「大阪でグローバルの先端教育」を行っていることを知っていただきたいという思いで、昨年に引き続き2回目の開催となったものです。
当日は守口、寝屋川、枚方、大東の公立中学から10名の英語教員の皆さんが参加。IB教育、本校のIB コースについて説明を行った後、高２のIBディプロマクラスで、「知の理論（TOK :Theory of Knowledge）」の授業を見学しました。これはIBカリキュラムの中でコアとなる必修科目で、「どこまで知識を理解できるのか」を徹底的に深く突き詰め、自己認識を高めて、異なる学問分野や文化に関する理解を促進することにより、知識に対する洞察力を高め、批判的思考能力を向上させ、国際的な視野を持つことを目指すものです。
Baptiste先生と生徒の対話型授業のやり取りはすべて英語で「What is Language?」をテーマに進められました。見学した先生からは「思考をどんどん深めていく点が良い」「当たり前と思われていることに問い、仮説を立てて自分の考えを表現することはこれからを生きていく子供たちに必要」「レベルが高すぎて驚いた」との感想をいただきました。
続いて、今度は先生たちが生徒となって、Baptiste先生のTOKの授業を実体験しました。
テーマは同じく「What is Language?」で、深く思考して、そして表現する授業は先生たちも興味深く取り組んでいただいたようで「改めて英語という教科の発問の大切さに気づかされた」「自分の授業に活かしていきたい」「日本の若者はTOKを絶対受けるべき」などのポジティブなフィードバックをいただきました。
今回はIBコースを志望する生徒がいる先生が実際に自分の目で見て正しく伝えるために参加されたケースもあり、本校としてはいろんな機会を通じて、IB教育を知って、体験していただく機会を広げていきたいと考えています。

Hosting an "Observation and Experience Event" for Middle School English Teachers
We hosted an "Observation and Experience Event" for middle school English teachers from the Kita-Kawachi district on September 13th, inviting them to experience International Baccalaureate (IB) course classes. This event aimed to provide teachers who are actively involved in English education at middle schools with an understanding of the excellence of IB education and to offer support in guiding students' academic paths. Additionally, it aimed to make them aware of our commitment to "cutting-edge global education in Osaka. This event marked the second iteration following its successful debut last year.
On the day of the event, we had the participation of 10 English teachers from public middle schools in Moriguchi, Neyagawa, Hirakata, and Daito. After an explanation of IB education and our school's IB course, they observed a class of "Theory of Knowledge" for our IB Diploma Program second-year students. This course is one of core elements within the IB curriculum, aiming to thoroughly explore the question "To what extent can we know?" It encourages deep introspection, promotes an understanding of various academic disciplines and cultures, and strives to enhance insight into knowledge, critical thinking skills, and fosters a global perspective.
The interactive discussion between Mr. Baptiste and the students was conducted entirely in English, with the theme "What is Language?" Teachers who observed the class shared their impressions, saying, "It's great to see students delve deeper into their thinking," "Questioning what is taken for granted, forming hypotheses, and expressing one's own thoughts are essential for children as they move forward," and "I was amazed by the high level of the class."
Following this, the teachers became students themselves and experienced Mr. Baptiste's Theory of Knowledge class. With the same theme, "What is Language?" they engaged in deep thinking and expression in response to the questions posed by Mr. Baptiste. It appeared that the teachers were also deeply interested in this class, and they provided positive feedback such as, "I was reminded of the importance of asking questions in the subject of English," "I want to apply this to my own teaching," and "Japanese youth should definitely take TOK (Theory of Knowledge)."
In some cases, teachers who attended the event had students who aspire to join the IB program, so they participated to gain a firsthand understanding and convey the correct information.
We aim to continue expanding opportunities to learn about and experience IB education through various means.
